Everest Base Camp Trek
Fourteen days in the Khumbu with Sherpa crews, teahouse nights and a sunrise on Kala Patthar — the classic Himalayan trek, done at a pace that gets you there.
Day by day
A dawn mountain flight onto the famous Lukla airstrip, then an easy descent along the Dudh Kosi river to our first teahouse.
Cross the Hillary suspension bridge and climb to the Sherpa capital, with a first glimpse of Everest on the way.
Hike to the Everest View Hotel (3,880 m) and back — climb high, sleep low. Afternoon visit to the Sherpa museum.
A contouring trail with Ama Dablam ahead. Evening puja at Tengboche monastery.
Leave the tree line behind and enter the wide Imja valley, walled with stone yak pastures.
Optional climb of Nangkartshang Peak (5,083 m) for views of Makalu and Lhotse.
Pass the climbers’ memorials at Thukla and follow the Khumbu glacier moraine.
The big day: walk to base camp among the icefall seracs, return to Gorak Shep for the night.
A pre-dawn climb to 5,545 m for the classic Everest panorama, then a long descent to thicker air.
Retrace the valley with legs that suddenly feel twenty years younger.
Final trail day and a farewell dinner with our Sherpa crew.
Morning flight back to the city; afternoon free in Thamel or Bhaktapur.
The climb, mapped
